Finding your fit

Where you are now, and where you want to go.

Who is AREA for?

AREA is for people who want to understand real estate investments and build stronger analytical skills. That includes students, career changers, analysts, and real estate professionals looking to sharpen their modeling and investment analysis.

Whether you’re preparing for your first role or working through deals already, the goal is the same: understand the numbers and explain what they mean.

Do I need real estate or advanced Excel experience?

Not to get started. The Fundamentals Series is designed to build your foundation in real estate finance, Excel, and financial modeling.

Intermediate and Advanced courses build on those skills. Choose a starting point that matches your comfort with the topics, rather than your job title.

How are the four course series different?
  • Fundamentals: Build your foundation in real estate finance, Excel, and modeling.
  • Intermediate: Apply those skills to more detailed analysis, including debt, equity waterfalls, and property pro formas.
  • Advanced: Work through more complete models and complex investment and development scenarios.
  • Analyst Skills: Strengthen practical skills such as scenario analysis, charts, market research, and interview preparation.
Which course should I start with?

If you’re new to real estate finance or financial modeling, start with the Fundamentals Series. If you already have a foundation, choose the topic you most want to improve.

Explore the course directory to compare the series and review the planned topics.

Learning with AREA

Practical lessons, with the reasoning behind the numbers.

What is the teaching approach?

Andrew connects the mechanics of financial modeling with the investment decisions behind them. You’ll explore how an analysis works, which assumptions deserve attention, and how to interpret the results.

Expect clear explanations, practical examples, and a little humor along the way.

Will I be able to follow along with the models?

Many of the planned lessons are designed for you to build or work through a model alongside the instruction. Supporting files may include Excel models, templates, or exercises, depending on the course.

Check each course’s details when it launches for the materials included.

What software will I need?

The modeling courses are being designed around Microsoft Excel. Plan to have access to Excel and an internet connection to follow along.

Course-specific software requirements will be listed with the course details.

Can I follow along on a Mac?

The financial concepts apply regardless of your computer. However, Excel shortcuts, menus, and some features can differ between Mac and Windows.

Review the software requirements for your chosen course when it launches before deciding whether you need a different setup.
